Mario Savetti is an ER Resident at Angels Memorial Hospital. After leading the hospital's center stage while Dr. Rorish was away, Dr. Campbell promoted him to be the attending physician.
History[]
Starting Residency[]
After doing his intern year at NYU, Mario started his residency at Angels Memorial Hospital. On the first day, he and the other residents listened at Jesse Sallander introduced himself as their mama. He told them his number one rule was that they were not allowed to kill a guest in his house and in order to obey that rule, they needed to ask him all the questions they thought were stupid because they'd be too afraid to ask their daddy, Leanne Rorish, the residency director. As he was talking, a doorbell rang and they all rushed outside for a "homeboy drop-off." When Christa hesitated upon being asked to climb on top of the patient, Mario took her place and held pressure on the patient's bleeding carotid artery. They got him inside and Mario was allowed to climb down. The residents then watched as Leanne decided against transfusing him and instead replaced his blood with cold saline, buying him the time he needed to get to an OR and saving them desperately-needed blood.
While meeting patients at the ambulances, Mario restrained Ariel Braeden, who was trying to get to her father, who had been seriously injured in a car accident. When she asked if her dad was going to die, Mario told her no, only to have Leanne step in and tell Ariel they didn't know how serious her dad's injuries were and needed to get him inside to find out. With Ariel placated, Leanne then warned Mario never to lie to a patient. Inside, Mario diagnosed spinal shock in Ariel's father, so Leanne had Christa examine him and she observed signs of brain death.
Mario and Christa were sent to check on a patient together and while they worked, Mario asked Christa, who was noticeably older than the other residents, if she was doing a second residency, if that's why she knew so much. She said no, she was a wife and mother before being a resident. Together, they examined Angela Dinozio, who complained of a headache made worse by the noise from the boiler room beneath her apartment. Mario noted that with her being pregnant, they couldn't do much for her and accused her of drug-seeking behavior after seeing the track marks on her arms. Christa pulled Mario out into the hall and he maintained that he believed it was heroin withdrawal as he had some personal experience with it. Leanne found them disagreeing and said that a tox screen wouldn't change the treatment plan, so they needed to recommend a social worker and ship her out. Christa still didn't believe it was heroin. Despite this, Christa secretly tried to order the tox screen only to have Leanne cancel it and fire her. When Christa came to tell Mario about this, he asked if she told Leanne that he knew. While talking to him, Christa realized that Angela actually had carbon monoxide poisoning and went to call Angela.
As the ER went into Code Black, Mario helped restrain Wayne while Neal reduced his femur fracture. They all then listened over the phone as Christa performed a c-section on Angela in the back of an ambulance.[2]
Treating Brian Wellborn[]
Mario was confused when Jesse had all the residents clean up the mess from the last shift. Jesse said that to be part of a team, no job was too big or too small, plus being an ER physician requires humility and like firefighters cleaned their rigs, the residents would clean theirs. He also warned them that as it was Saturday night, they would see some things before the sun came up.
Mario ended up working on Brian Wellborn, a hockey player he admired. Brian claimed that they had overreacted and he was perfectly fine, but Leanne knew that couldn't be true because if he were at all lucid, he could have stopped them from getting him into the ambulance. Brain was reluctant to let Mario examine him, but finally let Mario look in his mouth. Mario said he'd had a seizure because he bit his tongue in the process and based on the scarring, it had happened before.
Edward Darius, Brian's team doctor, came to the hospital and demanded a chart revision to remove any mention of seizures. Mario knew this was because Brian couldn't play anymore if he was having seizures. Mario told Darius that they couldn't revise the chart and this led to Brian shoving Mario. When Mario went to shove back, Jesse stepped between them and Leanne kicked Mario out.
Jesse found Mario outside and told him he knew the neighborhood Mario came from and knew the only way out was for him to become a bullet, but he couldn't be a bullet anymore because he'd made it.
Mario went to Leanne and apologized. She showed him Brian's CT, which showed parenchymal hemorrhages. She sent him to give Brian the news after confirming he could be professional about it. Mario told Brian about his condition and said it meant he could never play hockey again if he wanted to live as his next concussion could kill him.
Outside the hospital, Brian admitted to Mario that he didn't know how to be anything other than a hockey player. Mario reminded Brian of an interview he'd given where he said that a shot he'd made wasn't dumb luck, but smart luck, and said he could do anything he put his mind to, advice Mario had applied to his own life.[3]
ER Thoracotomy[]
When Angus was treating Stanley, who had falling off a truck ramp, Mario said that he believed Stanley's unstable heart rhythm was due to a problem in his chest, while Angus believed it was his abdominal bleeding. Mario reminded Angus not to be timid when Stanley flatlined and encouraged him to do a thoracotomy. Angus opened his chest and found it beating normally, meaning it was probably because of his pelvic bleeding and the blood transfusion helped it. When Rollie discovered them, Leanne and Taylor questioned them about what had happened. Mario stayed silent while Angus took all the blame for what had happened. Leanne noticed this and, while treating Zoe Fuller, told him that the further he went, the more he would need the people he started out with. When Zoe started bleeding from her eyes and nose, Mario rushed her to Center Stage, where Neal helped him treat her for a blood clot in her lungs.
Mario was talking to his grandmother on the phone, lying and telling her he was making friends, when Angus came in and he quickly ended the call. Mario wanted to talk about what had happened, but Angus said that Mario was the last person on his mind.[1]

Notes and Trivia[]
- CBS Bio: Mario, a new resident in the Angels Memorial ER, has top-of-the-game medical skills, but could use a little help with his people skills. Italian-American, cocky, and devastatingly handsome, Mario grew up in a tough neighborhood and bootstrapped his way to becoming a doctor, working second jobs to pay for medical school. Mario has boundless energy and plays to win. Succeeding is the only option for Mario. But because he's only ever relied on himself, Mario has a few lessons to learn about teamwork if he's going to make it through the residency program (and make friends).
- He paid for medical school by driving a truck.[2]
- He drives a '75 Impala.[5]
