Mark Taylor is the former director of the E.R. at Angels Memorial Hospital.
History[]
Neal's Concerns[]
Neal came to Mark with concern about Leanne's decision to replace a patient's blood volume with cold saline. Mark wasn't concerned about it because the patient survived. Neal added that Leanne changed after the accident that killed her family and since then, she'd had more dropouts than any other residency program. Mark defended that the doctors who got through her went on to more prestigious positions. When Leanne came in, she told Mark that the patient was in the OR getting his carotid sewn closed with all his blood safely back inside him. She confronted Neal about questioning her in front of her residence and Mark broke up the conversation by saying that more patients were coming in and they needed to get back to work.
For the rest of the shift, Mark made sure people were using their resources efficiently and focusing on the patients. Finally, in the middle of the night, he declared that they were officially in Code Black.
A couple hours later, he informed Leanne that one of the resident was calling from the back of an ambulance. When an OR opened up, he told the doctors who were waiting for it.[1]
Laura Halloran[]
When Mark noticed Laura Halloran was in the ER and hadn't been admitted yet, he asked why. Neal said he wanted to run a CT first. Mark insisted that Laura had overstayed her time in the ER and needed to be sent up. Later, when Laura was found to have an ovarian torsion, he told Christa there was an available OR, but no surgeon to operate.[2]
Multi-Day Code Black[]
After 36 hours in Code Black, Taylor came to Leanne and said he needed to keep the residents beyond their normal hours. Leanne said that they could handle it because they were young, but questioned him because he never worried about that before. He said he needed to pretend to be worried. Then he questioned Leanne, who was working her thirteenth day in the row. She simply told him her was welcome.
When Angus Leighton did an unnecessary thoracotomy in the ER, the attendings explained what had happened to Taylor, who was upset about the potential liability. However, he took a moment to console Angus by telling him he once accidentally removed the wrong testicle from a patient.
Later, Taylor warned everyone to hide their jewelry because a patient was coming in from the jail. With the large amount of patients, the cafeteria ran out of food, so Taylor ordered a taco truck to feed people. Then he had to tell Leanne that a deceased patient's mother was still sitting with his body in a room and they needed her to leave. When things finally settled down at the hospital, Taylor bade Leanne goodbye as she finally left the hospital.[3]
